There is something about hearing someone give feedback versus reading it. It does appear kids will respond to voice more often than if you leave typed or annotated feedback. This page in the guide will detail more information about feedback.

What Teachers See

1. I start by opening the gradebook, finding the assignment and clicking the ice cream cone.

2. I then click SpeedGrader.

1. I do like to encourage your due date to be further in the future to allow the kids multiple submissions. You can see I have more than one submission to toggle between.

2. Click the small play icon to initiate the video recording.

If this is your first time, or your laptop just got reimaged, you will need to allow Canvas to use the microphone. Sometimes it will also ask to allow Canvas to use the camera, just say yes.

1. Feel free to change the mic and webcam if necessary.

2. Click the big green button to start giving feedback.

You can either start over or click finish.

I gave this student two short videos of feedback.

It might be a good experiment to try shorter clips vs one long feedback video.

What Students See

A student can see there is one thing that has been graded and waiting for their review.

I can click on the paper to open the assignment and see the comments. I can also click the speech bubbles to see only the comments, as seen below.

Clicking the speech bubbles allows you to see the comments without visiting the assignment, which might not be the best.

Once they open the assignment, they can click View Feedback to open the assignment along with the video feedback.

There are two comments that are referencing the work submitted.

Students can then leave you, the teacher, feedback by clicking Media Comment.

Students might need to click Allow.

Just like the teacher, students need to click Start Recording.

Then Finish when done commenting.

Once they click save the comment will be shared with the teacher.

Now I can see there are multiple comments, some from the teacher and some from the student.
